About

Born in Beirut, Khaled Ramadan works between Europe, Asia and the MENA region. He is a filmmaker, curator, lecturer and cultural writer.

Ramadan’s work navigates the fields of art research, theory, and practice, with emphasis on informative aesthetics, constructed media and visuality. His art-house filmmaking, curating, and writing have rewarded him with a specialization in visual analysis and conceptual framing.

Previously, he has been a lecturer at Lund University, Sweden, and an examiner for the higher artistic educational program under the Danish Ministry of Education. He also held positions as a senior consultant at the Danish Arts Council, the Maldives Ministry of Culture, the Nordic Institute for Contemporary Arts, and as an evaluator of Alto University professorship program.

He was appointed curator of the Maldives Pavilion at the 55th Venice Biennale, appointed co-curator of Manifesta 8 in Spain 2010, and has curated for Guangdong Museum of Modern Art, Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, and Kumho Museum of Art, Seoul.

He regularly contributes to anthologies and journals (see publications).

EDUCATION

Educated at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Art, Heriot-Watt University in the UK, and Copenhagen University’s Institute of History of Art and Theater Research.

EXPERIENCE

Over 20 years of curating, teaching and working with artists and students at renowned institutions worldwide, including the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Art, Malmo Art Academy, Helsinki Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna Academy of Fine Arts, Lund University, Sweden, and many others.
